Early Learning (Nursery - PreK)

Welcome to Early Learning

Selecting a school for your child is one of the most important decisions you will have to make. We recognize this and at CSM we strive to ensure every child is in a caring, supportive and engaging environment, where they can acquire the skills necessary to become global citizens of the world.

At the heart of our school there is a rigorous academic program that aims to challenge our students to achieve their full potential, raise their expectations and supersede their limits. It is our firm ambition to prepare our students with not only an exceptional education, but with essential personal qualities such as honesty, tolerance, resilience, strength of character and self-confidence so they will be prepared for the challenges and wonders of life beyond our school.

All of our classroom teachers at CSM are highly qualified and come from all over the world. State of the art technologies are integrated into our curriculum to provide students with the opportunities to be 21st century learners.  We take pride in maintaining small class sizes and low student to teacher ratios, so students can receive the individualized support they require for their own academic and personal progress.

I am honored to have the opportunity to serve and collaborate alongside such an internationally-minded faculty and school community. I hope you will enjoy learning about our school’s mission, successes and future aspirations and I encourage you to come and visit us so you can see the incredible educational experience that awaits your child at the Canadian School of Milan.

Warmest Regards,

Daniela Aguanno
Early Learning, Primary and Middle School Principal

Early Learning (Nursery and PreK)

Our aim at CSM is to make the first steps of your child’s school adventure as smooth, positive and happy as possible. In the early years, we believe learning through playful inquiry is the foundation for intellectual, physical, and social and emotional growth.

Our programme is unique and was designed under the inspiration of elements from the Reggio Emilia project approach, the Montessori method, and the English curriculum to ensure that children are prepared to meet the Literacy and Math competencies required for Primary School.

The classroom environment is designed to learn through play, exploration, and social interactions. Research shows that playing is the way in which children engage their minds, organize their thoughts and store information using all their senses.

To support their learning, children may go on field trips, invite expert visitors, construct models, and conduct surveys.

We believe that a good relationship between teachers and parents is fundamental for encouraging young children to flourish and grow confidently and eager to learn.  We look forward to working together with you to ensure that your child gets the very best start in education and become the best they can be.

THE PRESCHOOL PROGRAM AT A GLANCE

Nursery (age 3)

In Nursery, the children’s main focus is on personal, social, emotional, physical and language development. Children learn to speak, count, sing, play music, enjoy art, and discover a variety of physical activities. We believe that active bodies mean active minds. Class sizes are small. Physical education and music lessons are taught by specialist teachers.

Pre-Kindergarten (age 4)

The focus in Pre-K is to develop confident, independent, sociable and happy children. The three prime areas of learning; physical development, communication & language and personal, social & emotional development. Through a variety of activities, free play and structured sessions we seek to challenge and stimulate children beyond the boundaries.

  • Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing
  • Early Mathematics
